The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation successfully coordinated two organ procurement procedures from brain-dead donors this week, contributing to saving the lives of nine patients and ending their suffering from organ failure. These efforts were carried out in collaboration with Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Riyadh.
The transplants included a heart transplant for a 19-year-old patient diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, who had been classified as an urgent case on the waiting list. In addition, two liver transplants were performed for patients suffering from liver failure, and four kidney transplants were carried out for patients -including two children- who had been undergoing dialysis due to kidney failure. The procedures also included two lung transplants for patients with advanced lung failure.
Dr. Talal Al-Qoufi, Director General of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, explained that organ allocation was conducted in accordance with approved policies, ensuring fairness based on patients’ medical priorities. He emphasized that this achievement reflects the strong collaboration and coordination among all involved entities.
In closing, Dr. Al-Qoufi expressed his deep gratitude to the families of the donors for their generous decision, praying that they are rewarded for their noble act both in this life and the hereafter.
