Five successful kidney transplant operations within the national kidney exchange program between families

The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation team, in cooperation with King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard in Riyadh and King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam, was able to perform five successful kidney transplant operations, ending the suffering of five patients suffering from end-stage renal failure, and restoring their hope for a healthy life.

Dr. Talal bin Turki Al-Qoufi, Director General of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, explained that these operations come within the framework of the National Kidney Exchange Program between Families, which was launched by the center on August 13, 2024, with the aim of providing living donors with the highest compatibility by exchanging donor lists between transplant centers in various regions of the Kingdom.

Dr. Al-Qoufi pointed out that the operations were carried out in close coordination between five families whose members were unable to donate directly to their relatives due to non-matching, in order to find alternative donors within the exchange circle, and with this achievement, the number of patients benefiting from the program since its launch has increased to seven patients.

At the end of his statement, Dr. Al-Qoufi expressed his thanks and appreciation to all the medical teams participating in the operations, praising their efforts to save the lives of patients and restore hope to them and their families.
