His Excellency the Minister of Health, Chairman of the Saudi Health Council, approves the guidelines and standards for accrediting organ and tissue transplantation programs and organ allocation policies.

The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation announced the issuance of a decision by His Excellency the Minister of Health and Chairman of the Saudi Health Council, Mr. Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel, approving the standards and guidelines for organ and tissue transplantation program accreditation, as well as organ allocation policies. This approval comes within the framework of national efforts to develop the organ donation and transplantation system in the Kingdom and enhance governance, quality, and equity in the provision of specialized healthcare services.

The approved guidelines include clear standards for accrediting organ and tissue transplantation programs, based on quality requirements for operational, medical, and procedural infrastructure. They also include periodic accreditation procedures, continuous improvement mechanisms, and a monitoring and compliance framework to ensure patient quality and safety.

The organ allocation policies aim to regulate organ distribution mechanisms according to standards that guarantee fairness, transparency, and the protection of the rights of patients and donors. The Center affirms its commitment to implementing the new guidelines and policies in coordination with relevant health authorities through executive steps that include:

• Activating the accreditation process for transplantation programs according to the approved standards.
• Establishing integrated systems for monitoring and tracking periodic performance reports.
• Implementing the organ allocation policies.
• Implementing training and qualification programs for medical staff to enhance efficiency and commitment.

 The Director of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation explained that the adoption of these guidelines and policies reflects the health leadership’s interest in strengthening the organ transplantation system in the Kingdom, stressing the Center’s commitment to implementing them in cooperation with the relevant authorities in the system to ensure the highest levels of safety, quality and fairness for the benefit of patients.
